Cookie policy

This document explains what Vribe stores in your browser, why, how long it lasts and how you change it. It is the operational detail of the cookies section of the Privacy Policy, which remains the main document. Here you will find the real name of each cookie — you can check them yourself in your browser — and the rules of each category.
1. What this document covers
It covers cookies and equivalent technologies that store information in your browser: as well as cookies proper, the local storage the Platform uses to remember preferences. They are treated alike because they do the same thing — keep something on your device between visits — and separating them would serve to dodge the question, not to answer it.
2. The categories
Everything stored falls into one of these. The first cannot be switched off; the next three are yours to decide from the preferences panel, at the foot of any page; the last one is written by our server and does not appear in the panel:
- Essential — without them the Platform does not work: your session, security and fraud prevention in payments, the referral link, the country that decides which consent regime applies to you, the record of your own choice, and error monitoring. These cannot be switched off.
- Preferences — they remember how you like to see the Platform: the language you chose and the display mode.
- Analytics — measures how the Platform is used, in aggregate rather than person by person, to know what works and what does not.
- Advertising — allows us to measure our campaigns and show you Vribe ads outside the Platform. It is the category most people want off, and it goes off in one click.
- First-party measurement — records which ad or link you first arrived from, so we know which campaigns work. Only our server writes and reads it, it is shared with no one, and it carries neither your name nor your email. It is not in the panel because it is not one of the notice's categories: where prior consent applies (European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland and European Economic Area) it is only written if you accepted analytics; from the rest of the world it is treated as functional.
3. What Vribe stores directly
These are the ones Vribe sets, with their real names. They are all here: if you open your browser's developer tools and look at the site's storage, no Vribe cookie should appear that is not on this list. Third-party ones are listed separately, in the help centre, because they change more often than this document.

As well as cookies, the Platform stores two keys in your browser's local storage (vribe_locale) to remember your language and display mode. They are governed by the preferences category: if you switch it off, they stop being stored and any existing ones are deleted.
4. The regime depends on your country
Not everyone gets the same default, and not out of whim: the law is not the same everywhere. Your country is inferred from your IP address before you can decide anything, because it is precisely what decides which option you have.
4.1 If you connect from Europe, the UK or Switzerland
Nothing that is not essential is activated until you accept it. The banner appears with everything off and you decide what to switch on. If you choose nothing, nothing is switched on: silence is not a yes.
4.2 If you connect from the rest of the world
Optional categories come switched on and you can switch them off whenever you like from the footer. It is the same treatment Turo and Airbnb give outside Europe, and we say so here in plain words rather than leaving it implied.
5. How to change your choice
You have two routes, and the first is the one we recommend because it is the only one that does exactly what you expect.
5.1 The preferences panel
It is under «Cookie preferences», at the foot of any page. You switch off by category and the change applies instantly: we stop sending data to that tool and, in addition, we delete from your browser the cookies that tool had left. That second step is the one usually missing elsewhere — switching off without cleaning up leaves the trail in place.
5.2 Your browser
You can delete or block them all from your browser's settings. Bear the effect in mind: without the session cookie you will not be able to stay signed in, without the language one the Platform will revert to the default language on every visit, and without the country one we will not know whether the European regime applies to you. Signing out removes the authentication cookie, and the referral one expires on its own.
6. How long your choice lasts
Your decision is stored in the consent cookie and lasts twelve months; after that you are asked again. You are also asked again if you delete that cookie, change browser or use another device, because the choice lives in the browser and not in your account. Changing it at any time costs nothing and does not affect your booking or your history.
7. Third-party tools
The cookies set by analytics and advertising providers are not listed here but in a help centre article, grouped by the same category as the panel and linking to each operator's privacy policy. The reason is practical and worth saying: that list changes when we change tools, and a legal document is updated with prior notice. Keeping it outside the legal centre lets us keep it current the same day, which is what actually serves you.
8. Changes to this policy
This policy is updated when what we store or the applicable law changes. The last-updated date appears above and the version published on this page is the one in force. If a change involves a new category or a new purpose, we tell you before it takes effect and, where appropriate, ask for your consent again.
What we do not do
There are no cookies from advertising networks beyond those listed in the help centre. We do not sell access to your data to third parties for money, nor do we buy profiles of you from data brokers. We do not use cookies to read anything from your device outside the Platform. No optional category is activated in Europe without your accepting it. And since there is no uniform standard to honour, the Platform does not respond to the browser's Do Not Track signal: use the preferences panel, which does take effect and also cleans up.
